The Jinju National Museum and Jinju City are hosting The Flow of Korean Polychrome Paintings II: Appreciating Birds and Flowers to follow the special exhibition The Flow of Korean Polychrome Paintings I: The Lights and Colors of Jinju held in 2022. The Jinju National Museum is presenting paintings of birds and flowers created from the Goryeo period through the modern era while the Rhee Seund Ja Jinju Art Museum is exhibiting works by modern and contemporary artists.
Since ancient times, people have enjoyed painting beautiful birds and flowers. They have attempted to visually represent the logic of nature and the duties of humanity as they expressed wishes to ward off evil spirits and lead a long and happy life.
The Flow of Korean Polychrome Paintings II sheds light on the bird-and flower theme within the Korean tradition of polychrome painting that has long been practiced out in parallel with simple ink-and-wash painting.
It is hoped that visitors can feel the sentiments ingrained in these paintings of colorful birds and flowers.
